‘Science in your Future’ event

Twelve Year 11 girls had the opportunity to visit the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory as part of the ‘Science in your Future’ programme.

They enjoyed an inspirational talk by Dr Ceri Brenner, a senior scientist at the Central Laser Facility. They also won a competition to build the ‘best solar car’ from cardboard,  straws and BluTac, a gear system and solar-powered motor.

The students took part in a series of workshops throughout the day designed to allow them to explore educational and career paths in Science.

The girls were interviewed by Reuters as they helped with the world-wide launch of ‘Science Scribble Virus Project’; a method to aid machine identification of viruses.
