Headteacher’s Letter 6 December 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

Our Twelve Days of Christmas attendance competition is up and running. An extremely high-tech and uncannily realistic Christmas-tree-themed-‘take-your-pick’-type-game-board has been manufactured in-house, and will be moving between tutor groups in the final days of term.

Each day, one lucky attender will win one of twelve Amazon vouchers worth £20, £30 or £50. This will lead up to the Big Prize on the last day and signals our continued promotion of great attendance, but also the importance of getting back to school after an illness. Today one of our lucky Year 8s took home a £20 voucher. But one has to be in to win!

Thank you so much to the wonderful Mrs Whyte, our Attendance Lead, who has done so much to encourage and reward great attendance at school. On the last day we shall of course be completing the attendance raffle and awarding the Switch console as well.

Wendy & Peter Pan

Unfortunately, we have to postpone our magical production of Wendy & Peter Pan. You will already be aware that we need to postpone but the cast and crew will continue rehearsing so that they lose none of their readiness for the re-scheduled performances on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th. All tickets will be transferred to those days and refunds provided if those dates prove tricky. Something to really look forward to after we have packed away those Christmas decorations.

More Drama…

Staying on the drama theme, Mr Moss organised a visit from The Oxford School of Drama (OSD) for our Year 10 and Year 13 students. The students watched an adaptation of Orpheus and Eurydice by their second-year students and then participated in an hour-long workshop that focussed on mimicking animal movements which led to the visitors being highly impressed and left in hysterics. More importantly, it left a number of students more certain that they wanted to pursue a career in the performing arts and apply to OSD. Thank you to Mr Moss.

Sixth Form and Staff Curry Night – Wednesday 15th January 2025

As we continue to shake off those lingering January blues, we are again looking forward to the annual buffet and quiz night. CNS staff will be showing our oldest students a thing or two while enjoying delicious (turkey-free) food from Café Raj.

With a fabulous raffle on the night, all proceeds will be donated to THRIVE and Thames Valley Air Ambulance and so please do urge any sixth form children you may have to form a team and get involved – even if they are bound to be beaten by their smarter superiors…  My thanks to Mr James, Design and Technology, for organising.

House Matches and Celebration Assemblies

We are right in the middle of all the house matches across the school, now that the year 11 and year 13 mock exam are well and truly behind us.

Before we break up the new personal scorecards will be issued and we look forward to our celebration assemblies before term ends.

The final day of term is Friday 20 December and the day will end for students at the end of period 3, shortly after 12:30 pm.

Yours faithfully
Barry Doherty
