Headteacher’s Letter 3 September 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you do not mind me interrupting your summer break with news on recent examination results.

Welcome to New Students and Staff

A big week ahead for our new Year 7s and those joining the school for the first time in Year 12 as well. Meanwhile we also welcome new staff to CNS: Mrs Whitley is our new Senior Pastoral Leader for Year 10 (replacing Mrs Forrest); Mrs Brassington replaces Mrs Gascoigne in maths; Mrs James replaces Mrs Corley in art & design; Mrs Bromley adds further capacity to our English department; Mr Hawkins-White replaces Mr Robinson in PE; and rs Ware and Mrs Teslia are new Learning Support Assistants.

A level and GCSE Results

I hope you received and enjoyed my letter updating you on the GCSE, BTEC and A level results on 22 August. You can look at more information currently available on our exam data webpage here  if you wish. Again, I wish to celebrate the achievements of our students and the broad and deep achievements of all departments at this school.

Start of Term Letters for Each Year Group

One takeaway from the parent survey last year was a desire for more information on what your children are studying. In addition to the curriculum summaries that appear here, you will receive a new style letter at the start of each of the six terms. Each one will be written by a different member of senior staff and directed at a specific year group. We intend to provide reminders on attendance, behaviour, the curriculum, diary events to be aware of, and who to approach if you have an enquiry. Please look out for these new style letters in the coming days.

Mobile Phones in School

Starting this term, mobile phones must not be seen or heard from the moment students enter the school site, to when they have left their final lesson, after 3:15pm. If this expectation is ignored then the phone will be confiscated (till the end of the day) and an after-school detention issued. Let’s try and avoid a single confiscation or detention! Meanwhile, year 7s are not permitted to bring a smartphone on to the school site at any point, but are welcome to take a block phone into school so long as they are switched off and out of sight until after 3:15pm.

I look forward to seeing all students in years 7 to 11 in my welcome back assemblies this week, where I shall remind students of our values and our immense belief in them and their future at this school and beyond. Good luck getting back into those routines and I hope the week goes smoothly for us all.

Yours faithfully
Barry Doherty
