Dear Parents and Carers
That’s it, we’re there. It has been a really nice last few days, culminating in today’s Streaks Ahead prize draw that enabled us to send two children home with some lovely prizes. And so, congratulations to Denys Shovkun (mountain bike) and Daisy Henderson (Beats).
In my final, letter to you a chance to declare the house competition winners and also say farewell to colleagues leaving us today.
Sports Day and House Competition 2023-24
On that theme of congratulations, it is Stour that has secured this year’s trophy…
In 1st place: Stour ends the year with 123,175 house points which works out at 423 per Stour student.
In 2nd place: Windrush ends the year with 96,343 house points – 400 per Windrush student.
In 3rd place: Glyme ends the year with 87,233 house points – 364 per Glyme student.
In 4th place: Evenlode ends the year with 70,750 house points – 313 per Evenlode student.
As a Villa fan I know that there is no shame in coming fourth and that there is always next year to settle the scores.
Meanwhile, the sports day was the final opportunity of the year for our students to accrue more points for their house. Whilst we value simple participation and giving it a go, it is also important to shine the spot light on some of our future Olympians who broke some very longstanding school records:
Year 10:
- Aidan Williams: Triple jump (11.16m), long jump (6.00m) and 100 metres (11.47 seconds).
- Harriet Pike: 1500 metres (6 minutes and 14 seconds)
Year 9:
- Evenlode Boys’ Relay Team: 4 x 100 metres relay: (52.90 seconds)
- Jamie Hawtin: High jump (1.50m)
- Jude Lockhart: 150 metres (5 minutes and 19 seconds)
Year 8:
- Jimmy Simpson: 100 metres (12.62 seconds)
- Isaac Payne: 1500 metres (5:22.39)
- Zander Thompson: Shotput (11.75 metres)
- Stour Boys’ Relay Team: 4 x 100 metres (56. 85)
In her final House Assembly, Ms Skill confirmed that 377, 501 house points have been awarded by staff to students this year – an average of about 377 per student. The highest points total for each house are as follows:
- Imogen Muller (1328) and Naomi Boddy (1335) for Stour.
- Lucas Ward (945) and Amber Davies (940) for Evenlode.
- Kenda Daymond (1140) and Benedict Querelle (1204) for Windrush.
- Niamh Boddy (1180) and Ingrid Clayson-Ward (1265) for Glyme.
Well done to Jamie and all of these high flying students!
Also in Ms Skill’s final assembly, she rightly praised ALL students on raising over five thousand pounds for charity this year, including just over one thousand pounds for a few days ago. We place so much emphasis on developing hearts and minds and it’s great to learn of the kindness and compassion of students in this way as well.
Thank you, ‘Thrive North Ox’!
Similarly, we rely so much on external agencies and people who help us to help children and their families. As we prepare to depart for a few weeks, I wish to draw your attention to the wonderful team at Thrive North Ox. Mrs Budd (Family Support Worker) has made dozens of referrals this year alone. The team are always kind and caring, but also go above and beyond to support the children and families at our school. Some examples of their support this year: funded breakfast clubs, self-help support goody bags, toiletries, shoe vouchers, uniform, sensory toys, food vouchers, gym memberships, piano lessons and so much more. Their amazing team included the following local heroes: Andrea Ratcliffe, Melanie Butterworth, Nicky Hall, Marianne Woods and Helen Tomalin. Thank you from us all.
Farewells
Today we say farewell, good luck and bon voyage to colleagues who are leaving CNS for new adventures. We wish every happiness and success to Mr Robinson (PE and Student Leadership Coordinator), Mrs Corley (Head of Art), Mrs De Bruyn (Assistant Headteacher), Mrs Gascoigne (mathematics), Ms Forrest (pastoral leader), Ms Fisher (LSA) and Ms Moorcroft -Sharp (LSA).
We hope our paths will cross again in the future and children and families in other schools will benefit as much as we have from their commitment, energy and impact. Thank you!
I shall be in touch again towards the end of August and so, until then, have a happy and restful summer from me and all of the staff and Governors at CNS.
Yours faithfully
Barry Doherty
Headteacher
