On Thursday 17th of February, The Dyson Institute visited CNS to host an Engineering careers workshop for a selected group of students from Year 11 and 12. Students were told about the huge variety of job roles involved in creating the Dyson Heurist – a robot vacuum cleaner.
After learning about the huge range of jobs involved in an engineering firm, the students where handed a Lego Brainstorm robot (which mimics the movement of the Dyson Heurist) and challenged to code it so that the robot would travel from a starting point to a finishing point in as few moves as possible. This was to highlight the use of problem solving within the company. The whole experience was enlightening and entertaining, making for a very enjoyable and educational afternoon.
