Forty three students travelled to Cologne in early December to visit the city’s Weihnachtsmärkte (Christmas markets), including the Fairy Tale market, the Cathedral market, Altstadt market, Neumarkt and the Harbour Christmas market. Each market has its unique character but all sell handmade gifts, toys, Christmas ornaments, delicious food. Students were able to ice skate at the Cathedral market.
The group also visited Cologne Cathedral, one of the most iconic buildings in Germany, and saw the Shrine of the Magi -a reliquary believed to contain the bones of the Three Wise Men. They enjoyed an evening trip to the water park complex, Aqualand and on the final day, a guided tour of the Lindt Chocolate Museum, famous for its three metre high chocolate fountain.
