Dear Parents and Carers
Global Presence
Since my last newsletter we have hosted 5 teachers and 35
students from China. I wish to thank my own colleagues for
being so welcoming and to Mrs Brocklebank in particular for
agreeing to organise our Chinese visitors and their Oxfordshire
hosts. 45 of our own students were so reliable in collecting each
one of our 39 visitors each morning and accompanying them to
the full range of lessons during the week. There is no doubt that our visitors will have
learned and experienced so much in their time with us and I hope that is also true of our
own students who had the chance to mix with children from the other side of the world.
Sadly, the snow closure meant we could not welcome teachers from Norway.
Uniform Consultation
All parents and carers are invited to take part in a four-week consultation on proposals
relating to our school uniform. Please feel free to submit any comments to: office@chippingnorton.
oxon.sch.uk. If you have any specific questions then feel free to email me personally
and I will attempt to provide a short but personal response. The table below summarises the
changes, the rationale and estimated impact on costs.
(3) Either (a) introduce a school branded pleated skirt or (b) introduce a trousers-only uniform.
Currently, many inappropriate skirts (length and fitting) are worn.
Schools must avoid a uniform policy that is unenforceable or unnecessarily burdensome to enforce.
Approximately £13-£17 under proposal 3a.
(4) Introduction of a badged open-neck / short-sleeved shirt.
Popular student request to address very hot weather.
No proposal to enforce purchase.
If introduced, all students will have the option to leave their blazer (only) at home.
Approximate cost: £TBC
(5) Introduction of plain black shorts, skorts and socks (un-badged) in PE.
Reduce costs, increase availability and aligned to “CNS All-Blacks” team kits.
Current students will not be required to replace items.
Compulsory for new Year 7s.
Widespread availability will reduce costs by £3-5 per item.
(6) Black branded outdoor PE jersey, with gold flashes.
Popular colour amongst students and aligned to “CNS All-Blacks” team kits.
Current students will not be required to replace items.
Compulsory for new Year 7s.
No change anticipated but overall cost of the PE kit expected to fall due to the proposed introduction of unbranded black socks and black shorts.
(7) Black branded indoor PE t-shirt, with gold flashes.
(8) Optional black branded fleece to be worn with outdoor PE kit.
Popular colour amongst students and aligned to “CNS All-Blacks” team kits.
Currently an optional garment.
CNS All-Blacks
I am hoping that we will secure sponsorship to introduce new school teams kits that will foster an even greater sense of pride in our school. The school’s colours (black and gold) will be combined with white to create attractive and iconic kits that we hope students will wear proudly. More on this next term.
Student Engagement
Naturally, all students will be encouraged to take part in this consultation and also on other matters that include homework, behaviour and the House System. There is more on this in this month’s newsletter to students but the process will be carried out by the elected student council representatives, led by Mrs Thomas.
Yours sincerely
Barry Doherty,
Headteacher
