Subject areas covered at CNS
Homework
In year 10 students should expect approximately 10 to 12 hours of homework per week. All homework should be recorded on the Satchel One website/app. Some departments will set larger project-type homework which may take longer. It is really important for students to get into good habits regarding homework and revision in year 10 in order to achieve their potential at GCSE.
Assessments
Work Experience
Week commencing 29th June 2026.
A fantastic opportunity for our Year 10 students to experience the ‘world of work’ with local and national businesses, which could lead to future opportunities. All students are encouraged to find their own placements and the first term of Character Education is dedicated to this process. Please contact the pastoral team if any support is required.
Top Tips for Success
Communication with the school is really important. Parents should contact their child’s tutor in the first instance; this can be via telephone or e-mail. There are several opportunities throughout the year to meet with your child’s teachers; There will be a Welcome to KS4 evening and meet the tutor evening in term 1, scorecards sent home in terms 2, 4 and 6 as well as academic reports sent home terms 3 and 6. There will be a parent-teacher consultation in term 5.
Organisation is also really important – please help and support your child by getting them to pack their bag the night before including their Homework, Pencil case and PE kit. Please label everything. We encourage all students in year 10 to get involved by joining one of the many varied extra time clubs. This provides a perfect opportunity for students to engage in activities to add to their CVs .
