PSHCE – known at Chipping Norton School as Active Tutorial – is the rich combination of the compulsory subjects of Citizenship, Relationships and Sex Education, and Health Education. These fundamental subjects form the basis of understanding for many areas of adolescent and adult life: such as healthy relationships, personal health, democracy and politics.

As well as these subjects, PSHCE includes financial, digital and media literacy to support students on their complex journey after their time at CNS. These subjects are integral to the sustained growth of children into healthy, well-rounded global citizens.

Active Tutorial is an extension of the tutorial period, with our excellent tutors leading on these subjects. Alongside the tutoring programme, this enables tutors to form deeper relationships with their students so they can support them during their school life and beyond.

Ms Skill is the Head of PSHCE and Character Education, designing the curriculum for a tutor team of 38 from Year 7 to Year 13. Alongside leading PSHCE, she teaches English and supports with a number of extra-curricular activities. Since joining CNS in 2019, she has obtained a Masters degree in Education Policy and continues to study in higher education.
