Headteacher’s letter October 15th 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Given some detailed information in recent weeks regarding student voice and parent or carer voice, I intend to keep my letter to you very brief this week.

Meet The Tutor Evening – Monday 18 October 2021

I hope you have all got appointments for Monday’s meetings. If not, please make direct contact with your son or daughter’s tutor as soon as possible.

End of Term 1 – Wednesday 20 October 2021

Please note that the final day of term is on Wednesday, at the normal time of 3:15pm. Term 2 begins at 8:40am on Monday 1 November 2021, for all students.

Important Parent and Carer Survey Request

A child or young person that feels safe is a student that thrives. You will be aware of my recent letters regarding the national report on peer-on-peer abuse from Ofsted and Ms Hancock’s recent letter (sent via In-Touch on Friday 24 September) in particular.

No school can ignore the need to ask questions of its students and their parents or carers – and this is exactly what we intend to keep doing so that we leave no stone unturned in our goal to be aware of and then address all forms of bullying, harassment and abuse. With this in mind, Ms Hancock now asks that you all take about five minutes to follow this link to a survey that drills down into a range of issues that relate to student safety. We currently work with an external partner, EqualiTeach, who help advise all RLT schools on these and other issues. Part of our work with them is to refine what we know so we can focus on improvements. In order to help us to do this, we would really welcome your thoughts about how well the school is doing in promoting equality and tackling bullying.

Your responses are completely anonymous and confidential. But, you are encouraged to contact Ms Hancock (Deputy Head and Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead), or other colleagues, if there is a specific issue or worry to discuss.

Have a lovely weekend.

Yours faithfully

Barry Doherty
